Take a moment to think about what you love about the Pacific Northwest.

Seriously, do it.

Is it how green everything is? The mountain views on a clear day? Hikes along the wild coastline or deep in the mossy forest? A dip in the river on a hot day?

We have so much natural beauty around us, and we have a duty to understand it and maintain it.

From a big picture point of view, this duty can only be accomplished by passing on our appreciation and understanding of nature to the next generation of leaders and voters.

But let’s be honest, as much as you agree with this plan, you’re slammed with all the other millions of obligations you have.

I’m offering a solution – one simple way to assist in educating our youth and taking this important responsibility off your shoulders.

I helped start World Salmon Council six years ago, which just this year gave over 1,500 kids the chance to get outside and learn about Mother Nature through our Salmon Watch program.

“No other environmental education program in Oregon can compare to Salmon Watch in terms of changing the way our children envision their roles as responsible members of society.” – Coleen Swihart, teacher

Using salmon as our focal point, kids learn the interconnectedness between the earth, soil, water, plants, and animals. You can see light bulbs go off as kids roll up their sleeves and engage with science to better understand the world around them.

“The water quality testing station was my favorite because I felt like a true scientist!” – Aidan, 6th grade student

The excitement is palpable, and soon the kids are teaching US about healthy ecosystems.

Imagine, in hundreds of homes across Oregon this year, “Hey Mom” or “Hey Dad” was followed with a story about bugs, water pH levels, or inspiring facts about a creature that defies logic – the salmon.

All you have to do is join me on Thursday, June 14 on the rooftop of Couch 9 in the Pearl District from 4:30-8:00pm for the exciting debut of our annual fundraising event: Upriver.

Three and a half hours of fun for the preservation of our beautiful local lands. Sound like a plan?

Join us June 14th to learn about the impact World Salmon Council is making in the region, celebrate our amazing volunteers who make these programs possible, and get to meet other community members who care about wild salmon and the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest.

All are welcome! Invite your family, friends, and colleagues – the more the merrier.

If you are unavailable to attend on June 14th, I invite you to make a $45 (the cost to support one student in the full Salmon Watch program) donation by clicking here.

What we have right here in the Pacific Northwest is so incredible. Join me in helping keep it that way.

RSVP here to join us for Upriver. It would mean a lot to receive your support.

Kindly,
