Fifty field trips completed – zero to go…

The fish in the Nestucca River had been waiting months for fresh water to flow into the bay, signaling that it was time to migrate home. When those rains came in November, the salmon were on their way!

But when it rains, it sometimes pours, and so the final trip of the season scheduled for last week had to be canceled the day before because of heavy flooding (2,385 cfs to 14,391 overnight!). A few dry days though brought river levels back down and provided a safe, amazing, “look at all of the fish”, somewhat chilly end to the field trip season.

In addition, World Salmon Council staff traveled further south in the Coast Range outside of Eugene last Friday to teach a Salmon Watch riparian station on Whittaker Creek, which flows into the Siuslaw River. Thanks to our partners at McKenzie Watershed Council for hosting us, and to the great kids from Mt. Shasta Middle School.

Much thanks to our Salmon Watch Volunteer Educators and teachers:

Tuesday November 17th: Miller Education Center at Humbug Creek

Volunteer Educators: Karrie Gibbons, Laurie McDowell, Tom Bright, Wendy Archibald

Wednesday, November 25th: Patton Middle School at Nestucca River

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
