We’ve had our biggest week of field trips this season!

Twelve classes took their science studies into the field this past week to four different sites: Eagle Creek and the Little White Salmon River in the Columbia Gorge, Eagle Fern Park in Clackamas County, and Cedar Creek in the Tillamook State Forest.

We had two extra special field trips this past Monday & Tuesday that were taught by newly trained Mt Hood Community College/Project YESS students. They did a fantastic job providing hands-on instruction in four dynamic subject areas to Walt Morey Middle School 6th graders.

Salmon continue to be plentiful at Eagle Creek and the Little White Salmon River, now attracting a number of seagulls and other wildlife who are taking advantage of the newly available nutrients from the decomposing fish.

Students also got to see the first returning female making a redd and a number of males lurking around (and scaring some trout into hiding) in Cedar Creek that drains into the Wilson River.
