This week marked the halfway point of our field trip season, and the beginning of Salmon Watch field trips out to two unique & beautiful salmon spawning sites: Eagle Fern Park in Clackamas County near Estacada and our second site in the Columbia Gorge on the Little White Salmon River in Washington.

Students have gotten to experience their Salmon Watch field trips amongst beautifully turning fall colors and lots of spawning fish to be seen!

When students were asked what they can do personally to help keep our rivers, streams and watersheds healthy, they had some creative and insightful ideas:

  • Dispose of waste more thoughtfully (Esme, Madison H.S.)
  • Support legislation that will benefit the environment (Nathan, Access Academy)
  • Ensure we are not disrupting salmon habitat when visiting (Ben, Madison H.S.)
  • Avoid using face cream with plastic beads (Logo, Grant H.S.)
  • Volunteer with Salmon Watch to keep people informed (Margot, Grant H.S.)

All fantastic and meaningful suggestions (we especially like the last one!).
